Howling winds, Snow falling and a big bowl of hot Chili. These are just a few things that make me happy.
Today has been a very interesting weather day. Blustery is the only way to describe it. I was driving for work and the winds were insane. With only 2" to 4" inches of snowfall the winds were able to pick it up and cause whiteout conditions. This isn't an actual image of the road while I was driving (Because I was driving) however I pulled this off the internet and it's basically what my actual conditions looked like.
The speed limit was 60 mph. I dropped all the way down to 20 mph or less. I had to turn on the flasher lights on and hope everyone else slowed down as well. Talk about dangerous. It was a very white knuckle drive. The wind and snow are very relaxing when you're at home. Not so much when you're driving on back country roads.
Above is a look at the recorded winds and wind gusts at the Rochester airport today. You can see we've had sustained winds between 25 and 30 mph. Gusting to 40 and 45 mph. In the past hour we have actually recorded winds gusting to 50 mph not shown in the image above. It's no wonder we have occasionally had whiteout conditions this morning and afternoon.
The Irondequoit, flags have been flying straight out all day! Like they've been starched or something lol. One thing I do enjoy once at home is seeing snow fall outside my window and also hearing that howling wind sound whip past the doors and windows. That windy whistle. I took a quick video trying to capture the sound.
Take a listen.
Once home, Hearing the winds, Seeing the snow, The only way to top it off is to enjoy some homemade chili with my family! So on my way home from work I stopped off at the store to pick up what I needed to make the perfect chili bowl.
Bon appetit!
That's how to end a winter day.
Thanks for reading. Stay well, Stay warm.
