It certainly feels like we have stepped back in time. And in doing so we have entered a strange and concerning time.
Day 20 of Coronavirus shut down and counting...
We've been trying to keep things positive here on the blog as much as possible. But sometimes it's hard. I think most of us have been trying to limit the amount of Coronavirus information we take in in a day. However some days I think it's harder to limit information than others. Sometimes you go through the whole day with just basic information on Covid-19 and then you turn the channel and catch some devastating news. News about new infection rates, or new death numbers, or new supply shortages, or heart breaking images of doctors and nurses struggling to do their jobs because of the lack of PPE and patient care equipment. All of these things are hard to see and hear. But the fact of the matter is, (They are real issues and they are happening in real time!). My heart breaks for everyone on the front lines of this virus. Doctors, Nurses, Store Clerks, Postal Workers, etc. Everyone.
People have said that this is a different type of war. Normally it is our military that is running to the front lines and protects us from harm. That is not quite the case right now. Right now it is our healthcare workers. They are the ones gearing up and running to the front lines to keep us all safe. And this really hits home for me.
My wife is a nurse. My wife is putting herself at risk to save lives. And shes doing it fulling knowing that her hospital will more than likely soon run out of their PPE as well. So not only will she be running to the front lines putting herself at risk. But she will be doing so without the proper PPE to keep her safe in the process. Our healthcare workers are our military right now. They are the troops keeping you safe. And many of them are doing it without the proper gear to keep them safe in the process. This is both truly inspiring and yet completely heart breaking at the same time.
This is not life as we know it. And none of us know when life will go back to "Normal". This whole thing is hard for everyone. I'm noticing that it is hard for me also because I so badly want to be able to help. I'm a problem solver by default. I mean crap... I'm a guy who fixes stuff for a living. And yet the only thing that I can do to help in this situation, is to continue to social distance and stay home. It's really hard to swallow. All most of us can do to help right now is to social distance and stay home. While our husbands, wives, sons, daughters, mothers and fathers in healthcare run to the front lines to keep us safe.
The only other thing we can do to try and help is to donate to charities if possible. Donate to food banks if possible. And also to donate blood if possible! I talked about this on a past post. The American Red Cross is calling on healthy people to please donate blood as we are seeing a major shortage right now because of the Coronavirus.
Here is the link to the American Red Cross.
Please say thank you and pray for everyone on the front lines during this Coronavirus Pandemic. A thank you is the least we can do.
Stay safe out there everyone. Stay well and healthy.
