It's day 32 of the Coronavirus shutdown. And I started it off with my first half marathon of the year. Now because most of the country is in a lock down, there are no big running events allowed at this time. So many running places are putting on what is called (Virtual Races). No this isn't some fancy computer simulated race or anything like that. It is just a regular half marathon however instead of everyone meeting up at a certain location. Hundreds of people. We just create our own route that is 13.1 miles and track ourselves running it. Time ourselves and everything. Then you submit your time to the racing officials. This is a way for all of us to continue to run and to continue to race against each other without being in contact with each other. We all run the race, but we do it alone. My buddy and I ran this race together even though we are 600 miles apart. We usually do two or three runs a week via phone call. Using ear buds so we can talk and run. It's actually pretty cool and works great. Mind you that we have been doing that for the past three years. LONG before this whole Coronavirus and social distancing thing started.
I finished my half marathon this afternoon with a time of 1:49:42. Which is my second fastest half marathon I've ran. I'll take it. Now that I've logged my time, all I have to do now is wait. There should be final results (Standing etc) posted on the race site within the next two days or so.
Staying active during this pandemic is super important. I've been preaching this on here periodically. We need to stay active now more than ever. So please, get outside and walk or run. Ride a bike or walk the dog. Anything to keep your body moving. Just do it in a socially distancing kind of way.
Thank you all for reading this blog today. Please stay well and stay healthy. I'm going to go rest now. A half marathon takes a lot out of you.
