Hello hello. We are now on day 33 of the Coronavirus shutdown. Yesterday I wrote about how the Coronavirus has changed the way we run races. Virtual runs. It's not ideal but we have been making it work as these are the times we currently live in. We are making the best of the situation. Staying together from a distance.
Well, last night the world was able to be together from a distance. A history making Global Citizen Together At Home Concert. And it was amazing! So heart warming.
The whole purpose of this concert last night was to help spread some cheer during a time when much of the world is shut down by the coronavirus.
The broadcast began with a six hour live stream on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, then headed to prime time on ABC, CBS and NBC for two hours. I was also informed by my Mom that it was being televised on TV-Land as well. Stars who appeared on the broadcast TV portion of the event included Billie Eilish, Jennifer Lopez, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, and Stevie Wonder.
Music legends Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, John Legend and others closed the show with a powerful collaboration. It was amazing! All of the singers and guests took time to thank health professionals who have been working relentlessly to treat Americans with COVID-19.
If you enlarge this picture below you can see just a small list of some of the stars that were part of this historical event.
Another truly touching thing that happened this past Friday was a virtual prom thrown by John Krasinski. So many kids are missing out on a very big day in their lives because of the Coronavirus. And it truly is sad. I was lucky enough to have gotten to attend a prom when I was a kid. And I think every kid who wants to go to prom should be able to have that experience. It's an important moment in a teen's life.
John Krasinski felt the same way, and just couldn't let them miss out.
John Krasinski announced the event sharing an old photo of himself from his prom and saying "First of all... you’re welcome," he captioned the photo of his much younger self. "Second of all I can’t take it anymore how much you are all missing your prom. So let’s do something about it! Let’s have an #SGNprom"
The virtual event took place on his YouTube channel (Some Good News) where he shares videos of himself highlighting positive stories amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Much like I try to do with this blog. Because good news is important not only now, but always! We have to look for it and we have to share it.
The one silver lining from this Coronavirus aside from the great show of humanity in these stories. Is that it has given us all "Time". Time with our loved ones. Time to reflect. Time to slow down and breath. Time to think and Time to love. So do your part and enjoy that time now. I know that not everyone's situation is easy right now. And a lot of people don't have the luxury of being able to stay home and enjoy this time. But if you can, please do. Play with your kids. Walk the dog. Enjoy your family. Slow down and live life. And once we all get back up and running again, when this virus is over, remember how life was during this pandemic. Learn from it and take some things with you.
In case you didn't get a chance to watch the show last night. I'll leave you with this video of the Global Citizen Together At Home Concert below. The show starts at minute marker 2:36.
Enjoy and thank you again for reading. Stay well and stay healthy.
