Day 46 Of Coronavirus Shutdown

We are on day 46 of the Coronavirus shutdown. So much has changed since this virus settled into our country. Lock downs everywhere, businesses closed, events canceled etc. One of these events I speak of is the One America 500 Festival Mini-Marathon (The Indy Mini).

This race has always been a BIG part of my life. This race was actually the very first half marathon I ever ran. It was my goal to run the Indy Mini from day one of my running career. So when I found out that this years Mini-Marathon wasn't going to happen in person, due to Coronavirus, I was truly let down. Sad for everyone who was looking forward to participating and now couldn't.

Well, the one silver lining was that they opened it up to become a virtual race. Meaning you pick your route and run 13.1 miles on your own. Tracking yourself with GPS and then submitting your results to the race officials afterword. So I signed up! It's the only way we could have this race in a way that everyone could still practice social distancing. I ran this race along with my buddy who lives 600 miles away. We ran it while having a phone call through headphones. It was a different race without a doubt. No fans cheering you on. No bands along the route playing their best music. And no yard of brinks to cross giving you chills with their rich history. But a race well worth having and one race of many this year that we will never forget!
You do what you can in these trying times. You make the best out of a crappy situation. That's what my buddy and I did today. That's what we're all doing across the would. We are all in this together. And we will all get through this together. This is another racing bib and medal that will hang on my wall. It's another bib and medal that holds a story. And it's yet another race I've ran this year that I will always remember.

Stay well and positive everyone.
Thank you for reading.

Please continue to practice your social distancing.
