Hello bloggers. How is everyone doing? We are on day 62 and counting of the Coronavirus shutdown. I honestly didn't think it would last this long. But on the flip side, I'm now truly wondering if we will in fact hit 90 or 100 days of shutdown.
We have started phase one of the re-opening process here in the finger-lakes region. We're currently in the very beginning stages of it however. Watching the infection rates and hospitalizations very closely. Here in the Rochester, NY area everyone is being fantastic about wearing masks while out in public areas. However I keep hearing and reading about how many of the other states in the country are not doing so. Not following the CDC guidelines and saying no to masks and social distancing. This truly disturbs me. I mean, does no one remember how we got here to begin with? Does no one remember how easy and fast this virus spreads?
Gatherings are dangerous as Gov, Andrew Cuomo says. Take a look at this chart below.
In March, 61 People attended a choir practice. One had Covid-19 symptoms. Soon 53 people were sick. Of those 53 people, 3 of them were hospitalized and 2 of them died! That's how serious this virus is! This is why we cannot gather in large groups and this is why we all need to still be wearing masks. It's that simple. Wear a mask and practice social distancing. Yes, we're working on opening back up. However that does NOT mean we can stop wearing masks and practicing social distancing as much as possible. This doesn't truly end until we get a vaccine.
Some good news in relation to the Coronavirus. Researchers have found a way to sterilize and reuse masks during this pandemic. One of the major topics we have all been discussing from the beginning of this Coronavirus outbreak has been the lack of PPE. Especially the lack of N95 masks that block the coronavirus. Well, Duke Health researchers from clinical teams and researchers in North Carolina have confirmed that there is a way to use existing disinfection mechanisms to clean and reuse masks.
The process uses specialized equipment that aerosolizes hydrogen peroxide, which permeates the mask's layers, killing germs, including viruses, without affecting the material. This is fantastic news. This is news that has been known since back in early April however I haven't gotten around to talking about with you all until now. Either way it is great news and I'm happy to see this progress.
How are all of you holding up through this pandemic? If wherever you are located is starting to open up, how is that going? Let me know in the comments. I'd love to read it.
Thank you all for stopping by. I will check in again soon.
Stay well and please wear your mask and keep up with the social distancing.
