Good morning everyone.
Wow I truly never thought I would still be doing these Coronavirus shutdown updates over one hundred days later. I started doing these posts back in March. March 19th to be exact. It is crazy to think and wrap my mind around that fact that for the year 2020 I have been off work more days than I've been at work. I've only been at work a total of 78 days this year. And have now been off of work for one hundred and one days and counting. I never could've seen this coming. (Well, none of us could. I guess that's kinda the point).
Things are a lot better now in NYS than they were a hundred days ago. As for the rest of America as a whole? Yeah..... NO... It's horrible. But lets get to that in a minute. First lets start with how NYS is doing.
These are numbers that were taken on June 24th. I don't have today's numbers on me at this exact moment. But you'll get the idea.
67,642 tests were performed on June 24th 2020. 749 tests came back positive (1.1% of total). Total hospitalizations fell to 996. Sadly, there were 17 COVID-19 fatalities.
Taking a look at that chart above is great news. We were the most infected state in the country and the most infected place in the world per-capita. Now we are one of the lowest infected. You can't tell me that wearing a mask and practicing social distancing doesn't work. The proof is right there in the numbers people.
Now while we have improved our situation over the past 100 days. The rest of the country has decided to take a different approach. The U.S hit a record high for new COVID-19 cases on June 25th 2020. With numbers spiking across southern states especially. The U.S. set a daily record for new COVID-19 cases Thursday in a return to figures not seen since late April.
According to data collected by Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center, 40,401 new cases were recorded June 25, surpassing the previous record set April 24, which saw 36,291 new cases.
The U.S. continues to lead the world in both reported cases and deaths from the coronavirus. As of early June 26, the U.S. has recorded 2,422,310 cases and 124,416 deaths.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the case numbers are almost certainly understated. What the CDC is thinking / saying now is that for every one case that has been reported there were actually ten other infections. This is insane. And the orange angry baby man (trump) keeps trying to slow down testing so it doesn't (Appear) like America has a problem with Coronavirus. Spreading false information to the American people saying that Coronavirus is under control and we have beaten it. (Well, I'm here to tell you that isn't the case. It is still VERY MUCH HERE. And it is STILL very much a PROBLEM!)
I've said it a million times on this blog and I'll say it again. I'm truly thankful that we have a Gov like Andrew Cuomo during this pandemic. As of June 24th Gov, Cuomo announced that he has been speaking with Gov, Murphy and Gov, Ned Lamont about a joint travel advisory. All individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID-19 into NY, NJ, or CT must quarantine for 14 days.
Gov, Cuomo said - "This travel advisory is effective midnight tonight.
NY, NJ and CT will continually update and publish on their respective websites a list of states to which the new advisory applies. As of today, the list of states includes: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Utah & Washington."
I know and understand that Coronavirus has been hard to deal with. I understand that people want to get out and have "life as usual". But this isn't "life as usual". 2020 is not "life as usual". These are difficult times for everyone. And as much as people don't want to believe it. We're not going back to "life as usual" until we have a vaccine for COVID-19. Plain and simple. We can have some normalcy back in our lives however if we do things in a smart way. Seeing friends but not going out in large groups. Wearing a mask when we are in public places. And acting responsible. As the saying goes, "This too shall pass". But we have to be responsible in the mean time.
So wear your mask. Practice social distancing. And stay well!
Thank you for taking the time to read my little blog. I will check back again soon.
