Another day in quarantine. I'm now on day 22 of the Coronavirus shutdown. Part of this blog has been to have a bit of a personal take on this historic event. And also to have something to look back on in the coming years. So I came across a quick 25 second video that pretty much describes how this whole Coronavirus thing got started. A lot of us are asking "What Happened?".
Well, watch this video and you will see. It is short, sweet and to the point.
Here in NYS this past Monday we got some new news on what we now need to be doing in my county.
Our Monroe County Executive Adam Bello encouraged all Monroe County residents to follow new CDC guidelines for wearing cloth face coverings over their mouth and nose any time they are out in public. The CDC now recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (As in grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community based transmission.
People all over the country are actually making their own cloth face masks. The use of these homemade face masks are mostly intended to slow the spread of the virus from people who may be infected but aren't showing any symptoms.
I know a handful of people myself that are going above and beyond doing their part making homemade masks. One of my good friends, Klynn, who is more like family back in Indiana has been making them.
She has made around 20 masks so far and has generously donated them to her local doctors offices and nurse friends.
Klynn, is someone who always goes above and beyond in times of need. So this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who is graced with her presence. Thanksgiving time, Christmas time, and now Pandemic time. She will step up whenever and wherever she can. And to that I truly say (Thank you)
My mother has also been busting out the old sewing machine and getting to work. Shes been making the masks by the order. Anyone who needs one gets one. I believe she has made around 6 masks so far and counting.
Sammy who is actually a nurse up here in Rochester, NY is making them as well. I have been told that she has made approximately 150 masks. She has also been going above and beyond making them and donating them as well as helping mask her fellow doctors and nurses.
I mean this is just incredible to me. All these amazing people taking it upon themselves to do what they can and put their skills to the test. To help others in this time of need. When PPE is on a major shortage and this virus is on the move. These people are also hero's that deserve to be highlighted!
Sewing is a great skill to have in life, and even more valuable right now. So a big, big, THANK YOU to everyone who is making masks right now to help protect everyone from spreading this nasty virus. I've been saying it quite a bit on this blog lately. Now is the best time to learn a new skill. With most of us having all this extra time on our hands, why not pick up sewing?
In addition to learning a new skill. It is also important to take time for self care. I want to encourage you all now more than ever to make sure you are talking time away from the news and media and focusing on your health.
Lastly I wanted to leave you all with this quote from Former Vice President Joe Biden.
"The weeks ahead will be some of the toughest we’ve ever experienced as a nation. We need to face them with the same spirit and resolve that have guided us through previous crises. Because out of every trial and tribulation, America has always emerged stronger — and we will again." -Joe Biden.
I want to thank you all again for taking the time to read this blog. I appreciate it and I hope it gives you some kind of joy.
Please continue to practice your social distancing. And as always Stay Well and Stay Healthy!
Very beautiful and thankful you keep us informed well..
