Hey bloggers. We are now on day 88 of the Coronavirus shutdown. Or I'am at least. That's how many days my place of work has been shut down. 88 days and counting. I do think we will be back to work soon however. NYS has been doing a great job in handling the Coronavirus. We have the best numbers now in the country. And many areas in the state have entered phase 3 of the re-opening process as of this past Friday. My place of work would be in phase 4 which is why I figure we will be back to work by the end of the month.
We have had so much going on in the year 2020. On this blog alone we have talked about our horrible president and lack of leadership. We have talked about the Coronavirus and how dangerous and deadly it has been. And we've talked about the protests over Mr George Floyd's death and police brutality. So much has happened this year and it's only June.
So starting today with the BLM protests. Some good things happened in NYS yesterday! Governor Andrew Cuomo, signed into law a bundle of police reform bills passed by the legislature this week. Among them are a repeal of law 50-A, a statewide ban on choke-holds, automatic appointment of a special prosecutor to cases of police killing unarmed civilians, and a law making fake race-based 911 calls a crime.
Cuomo also said he is signing an executive order Friday that will withhold funds from police departments that do not enact reform. The "NYS police reform & reinvention collaborative" requires departments to work with their communities to draft reform before April 1, or lose state funding.
Gov, Andrew Cuomo, tweeted this out yesterday - "Today NY took a major step toward justice by enacting landmark police reform," Cuomo tweeted. "To the activists and advocates who spoke out year after year, to all who marched and demanded justice in the last weeks, thank you. Your voices brought real change." This truly is history everyone! Once again NYS is leading the way in this country and I'm very proud of my state.
Now... On another note. I really try to keep positive news on here. However with the asshole we have in the White House currently, it is extremely hard to do. So I will only briefly touch on this next topic. While Gov, Andrew Cuomo was signing an executive order into law on Friday helping all the protesters make history, donald F-ing trump was taking the country backwards once again.
In a move applauded by donald F-ing trump’s conservative religious base, his administration on Friday finalized a rule that overturns the Obama-era protections for transgender people against sex discrimination in health care. This asshole is literally flushing country down the shitter. I don't want to go into great detail on this blog about this devastating topic as this is supposed to be a good news page. However if you would like to read more about it please ((CLICK HERE)))
Now back to something more positive!
As many of you know my buddy Mark and I have been doing a lot of running during this quarantine. Running a lot of virtual races. My wife has even joined in on the fun. All three of us are currently running the NYS race across NY challenge. Where you run virtually across the entire through-way from Buffalo to Albany. Over 300 miles in 3 months. The great thing about doing it virtually is that you get to pick where you run to get in those miles. I have been doing a lot of running on the shore as seen in my pictures above and below.
Talk about making your run easy. When you can reward yourself with a view like that, it's SO worth it!
Also in quarantine I have been able to get in a lot of reading. I just finished my 7th book in 88 days. I've been on so many cool journeys. Reading takes you on such a ride.
I understand that what I've been up to isn't "News" per-say lol but I figure I write this blog often and share so many stories with you all. That maybe you're also interested in what I've been up to. (Who knows. Maybe not) lol.
Anyway. I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there. I'm off to run another virtual race with my buddy. 10K here we come. Stay well and healthy everyone. I will check back again soon.
Please continue to practice social distancing and please continue to wear a mask when out in public. And be kind to your neighbor. No not just the person that lives near you. Your (Neighbor) your fellow human. ((Peace))
